1990 – The induction of leukemia by ionizing radiation has been well documented in humans and laboratory animals.

There is no evidence that radiogenic breast cancers appear during the first 10 years following exposure, but after this time the number of such cancers appears to increase rapidly. On the relative-risk scale, the data suggest that the incidence peaks at 15 to 20 years after exposure and the mortality about 5 years later.
