We’ve passed Peak Technology – 2017

“Inside the flat a fruity voice was reading out a list of figures which had something to do with the production of pig-iron. The voice came from an oblong metal plaque like a dulled mirror which formed part of the surface of the right-hand wall. Winston turned a switch and the voice sank somewhat, though the words were still distinguishable. The instrument (the telescreen, it was called) could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely.”

George Orwell, from “1984

The words “mystery“, “baffled” and “puzzled” are memes, used, among numerous similar variants, whenever anyone in the wholly-controlled-and-coopted Political, Academic, Scientific and Media establishments wasn’t to lie about, well, basically anything. One of those variants is “surprised“.

That’s why a story below says “Your Smartphone Is Changing the Human Race in Surprising Ways”

Yet, even three years ago, people even other than me knew what was up with the “Smart” phone:

September 26, 2013 – Smartphones: Transforming society into a sea of stupid | ZDNet

Now, just three short years after the “dumbphone is dead” headline you read up top:

“In ditching my smartphone my attention span has improved exponentially.”

I’ve had my “dumbphone” for about week, week and a half, and already I’m noticing big differences in my day-to-day.

Since ditching my Smartphone, I must have read twenty really, really good novels.”

But perhaps most salient:

“Ditch the smartphone, find your soul”

It may be at least a generation, if not two or three, before the spiritual side of this whole passage is more deeply investigated. But I think we’re moving past it.

Driving though the campus of the University of Pittsburgh every day on my way to work, I get to look at hundreds, nay, thousands of college students, all in a huge field of view. It’s a really big campus.

Point is, I’ve been watching, and the earbud-wearing is dropping, the Beats headphone-wearing is dropping, the phone-clutching is dropping. Like, it’s become uncool to be seen walking around clutching one.

Like no one wears the Borg earpiece things anymore, either.

I’m seeing hands on phones in pockets, now. Hidden.

Remember, when the school of fish the flock of birds turns, they do so apparently as one.

“The average British person is consuming fewer things. Perhaps we are slowly beginning to realise that less really is more .

Recent data from the Office for National Statistics shows the average person is consuming fewer resources than they were a decade ago, recording a fall from 15 tonnes of material in 2001 to 10 tonnes in 2013. We also use less material per person than any other European country bar Spain.”

Frode, good afternoon – thanks for this great addition! And for documenting we’ve also passed Peak Materialism.

I believe this should be it’s own post, I’ll begin researching the “less consumption” trend and report back, you may be assured.

In business, a profit margin is thin, usually. The Bad Guys are skilled and ingenious, but not superhuman. Things like people consuming less – a full third less! – hurts their bottom lines, both physical and etheric.

Their boat is as full of holes as swiss cheese, and going down fast. A ship sinking is a thing, a real thing, and it’s going to be really fun watching this process, it already is.
